Part of what I’ve been working on for the last year or two has been losing weight. At my highest I was at 285 or so, way too big for a man of my age and height. Add to the mix the fact I have already had a heart attack and it looks even worse.
My girlfriend works out daily, like obsessively but that is how she is. And I got tired of her showing off her gains and weight loss, I mean her legs look like a bodybuilders. So I slowly start making some changes.
Change one: Sodas are almost always off the menu. I have maybe one or two a month, usually if I’m driving somewhere. It helps me to not snack as much. Plus when I do drink one, it’s almost always Diet Coke, Diet Coke its good. Now pay me Coke 🙂
Change two: Cut back on my fast food intake. That ties in well to the no sodas thing. I used to say “It’s only once or twice a week, it can’t be that bad.” It was, so out it goes. Another benefit, I’m saving money by eating at home.
Change three: Working out. In the long long ago, I had a gym membership and I would go fairly often. But then I’d skip a day or two and then it would be a week later. My girlfriend has essentially a gym in her house, but it’s all treadmills and elliptical machines. I like weights or machines so it didn’t really appeal to me.
Then I saw a video on YouTube for a VR app called Supernatural VR for the … sigh… Meta Quest. It looked right up my alley with the boxing type workouts. So after saving up a bit, I got the headset and started the trial for it. And I was hooked, no terrible music I could chose what I liked. Different workouts, trainers, etc. I did fall off the wagon last year, but I started it back up around November and it is now a routine at night. I get home from work, play on the computer for a bit, then I do at least a 15 minute workout. I’m slowly working my way up, but doing a 30 minute high intensity boxing workout is beyond me right now.
So I’m glad to say that these changes, along with others have started working. I’m down to 239 this morning and I feel better. My knees don’t hurt as much, my clothes are fitting looser, people have noticed, etc. But the biggest change is I feel better about myself and that I’m not falling into a bad health rut.
Now I doubt anyone will read this, but if you do I can give a trial code away. This should be the invite link.Â
